I found this of one of my favorite pinup artists, Gil Elvgren. And noticed some differences in the model versus the outcome. Her chest is distorted in the painting, and I don’t’ see why he had to do that. She was fine in the pose! Seems like it’d be super uncomfortable to bend one’s spine like that.

Possibly only mild eschergirl syndrome, but I thought  you might want to take a peek.

What I find most fascinating about this is that besides that her legs have been compacted, her breasts have been slanted so that we see more cleavage.  The slanted breast thing is something that is pretty common on this tumblr, whether it’s women who’s legs are in perfect profile, but torso is slanted at us to see the breasts, or it’s the more egregious boob flounder, but it seems like women just aren’t fit for consumption until our breasts are leaning towards the viewer and in a way they can see the tops of them.

I’ve noticed that in a lot of comic art (but not all of them fit my criteria to go on this blog) so it’s really interesting to see it in this piece too and being able to compare it to the original.  It’s also interesting that while they shifted her whole body and especially her chest towards us, her head angle didn’t change at all and that adds to the weirdness (they did slim down her face though).

Edit: Just to clear up any confusion, I’m not critical of the pin-up because as I said, the legs have been shifted so that the boobs can be visible (the head hasn’t changed but the rest of the picture has been changed in angle), I was just noting that the perspective on the chest changed to what’s very common in my blog.   I also don’t consider this one an “Escher Girl”. :)

7. penciltothetemple said: To be perfectly honest, it looks like Gil drew the pinup girl at a different angle than the model, her hips are turned more away from us and slanted as well based on that belly I see in the right image and the different angle of the far leg.
