Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

From Captain America (2002) #30 penciled by Scot Eaton. I thought this was a good example of how men and women tend to be drawn differently for no good reason in comics. Captain America and Diamondback have both been suspended by manacles. Cap’s stance is powerful and his face is defiant whereas Diamondback’s pose is that of sexualized submission.
Bonus: a shot of Diamondback from Cable & Deadpool #20 penciled by Patrick Zircher. Some of the weirdest looking boobs I’ve ever seen.

Hey!  It’s American comics boobsocks!
Also, that’s a good point about the differences in their poses.  Cap’s pose would make a good Psylocke Collaboration redraw.

Poor Cap too though. This artist clearly knew nothing about human musculature.
