Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

So I’m not a great artist, but I can recognize flaws when I see them. I attempted her pose to see exactly how improbable it was, and it was not only painful, but also very unbalanced. With her legs like that, you could push her and she’d topple. She kind of looks like she’s getting ready to fight, so I widened up her stance and gave her a better base. Obviously there’s some serious boobs&butts going on, and I also don’t really know what’s going on with her left arm? So I tried to patch that up as best I could, but I’m not really good at fighting stances, so I didn’t know what to do with her right arm. Like I said, not really that great an artist. Hopefully it is an improvement, though.
Also it looks like someone placed her boobs on the side of her chest, rather than on the front. So, that it was a thing.
I also colored and shaded it to show how I fixed the lighting. The light was coming from four different places, like the artist just didn’t really pay attention to what he was doing. I let her keep her her mildy impractical outfit and mildy impractical sword. I take it she’s a vampire, by the title, so maybe weird clothes and swords are some weird vampire shtick.I didn’t try on the face. Not good at details. Hopefully this is an improvement. I take it that she’s smiling because of how good her back feels.
