Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

If you’re going to engage in a fight to the death, you should probably not have your poses do half the opponent’s work for them.

I’m amused by how lovingly detailed her breasts are, and it’s like, after drawing those, the artist didn’t care anymore and we have the mess that’s her (organless) torso and single-hipped legs.

Both have limbs that don’t make sense.  A match made in heaven!

He’s confused about his plurals because he thought he was fighting one woman, but from those body parts, apparently he’s fighting two.

Avengelyne should be careful!  There’s another woman sneaking around behind her!

Her right leg looks smaller than her left.  But they both look rubbery.
There’s an inordinate amount of phallic imagery in that cover too.
And how does that costume hold her boobs in place?

She has no back, her boobs just sit on top of her pelvis.  The perfect woman! (for these artists anyways)

Displaced head syndrome.  Snake spine.  It must be very difficult to stop heroines in comic book world.  You have to make sure every door is shut tight, and put a towel under the door too.

Wait, which one of them is supposed to be the inhuman monster again?

My first official Liefeld picture!  (I may have posted him in the past without knowing it, but I haven’t been aware of it if I have.)  I’ve actually been trying to AVOID Liefeld to start because I wanted to avoid people just saying “oh that’s Liefeld, he can’t draw anything”, and because he’s such an easy target, but I think Escher Girls is at a point where it’s pretty clear it’s not just Liefeld that has issues drawing and posing women.
Also is the weapon in her right hand SUPPOSED to be that short?  Is it a dagger, or did Liefeld just screw up trying to make it look like it’s pointing away?  With him, you can never be sure WHAT’S on purpose. xD
