Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

Excerpt from the Superheroine Etiquette Guide:

A good superheroine knows when it’s necessary to dislocate her spine so her stronger, more capable male partner can have a clear shot.

What’s amusing to me is that this is apparently a “Marvel Masterpiece.”

Science!

Science on massive breasts!

Perhaps this could be an insight to the reason they all have massive breasts? Or at least how they manage to not fuck up a mission outside of being ogled.

Fighting a lot of sea battles is she?

I really wonder how the black haired girl’s top is not flying off.  That must be some super glue.  Also Black Cat’s leg is kinda worrying me.

Yikes, someone has a serious case of one leg, sway back, stick arms, side boobs and incorrectly sized per-perspective butt cheek. I’m probably missing something.
In any case, artist: Black cat is not indued with the power of cat flexibility.

She looks very snakey.

So I showed a friend Escher Girls today, and he linked this to me after showing it to another friend who fiercely defended it. The friend who now likes your blog and has gone through about 30 pages now asked me to submit this because it made him sad for the future of comics. :c
Overall, the comment was “BUT THAT’S NOT HOW BODIES WORK”

Part of the interesting thing I find about women turning to talk to somebody in comics, is that they don’t turn a little bit of their body, then turn their head, they just turn their body and their head doesn’t turn much in relation at all.  It’s like the artists don’t think women can turn our heads to talk, just our torsos.

She’s doing boobs and butt while balancing on one and a half knees on a rooftop edge.  That’s… all I’m going to say about that.

decided to attempt to redraw the Black Cat art that was submitted last week. (http://eschergirls.tumblr.com/post/32895526269/radiantstardust-submitted-so-i-showed-a)
her left leg still looks a little off because I botched the foreshortening a little, but at least her upper and lower body are in proportion (did anyone else notice that her head and ribcage were HUGE compared to her pelvis, and her hands about the same size as her feet?)
not quite sure how her breasts are staying in that costume or what’s going on with her back-of-the-knee hair, either, but at least the wind direction is consistent.

I think she’s meant to be looking down at someone before she runs off, but I think what you came up with looks very cool too, and you did a good job with the wind.
