Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

There’s a nice symmetry to how she looks like a bow herself.

I hope I’m submitting this right. So, redraw of recent archer-woman, I couldn’t resist it for some reason. I think that if she was heading in direct profile like that while shooting, her butt and legs would also be in profile and her back would be facing us more directly, but I tried to keep the original pose as much as possible. I’m also not a master archer so correct me if I’m wrong. Anyway, I’m quite happy with the result and I think I learned some things about coloring in the process. If I left or created any any anatomy mistakes feel free to point it out.

Hi, firstly, I love your blog and I want to thank you for all you do.

I was struck with inspiration to do a redraw of this post, and also get some practice using my new (first ever!) tablet.
I don’t know anything about this character, but I love the idea of characters like this. That’s why I decided to tackle this image in particular.
I made the bow a little smaller, since it was kinda huge. I put her hair into a more convenient (IMO) plait, changed the costume and cape according to my own liking, and drew her a new body as well as I could manage without any references. I wanted to let her keep her booty, while not shoving it in the viewer’s face, or vacuum-sealing it in her pants. I didn’t change the pose itself, at least not much, because I think the original image was supposed to be more of a decorative pin-up than a truly functional pose.
Overall, I think doing this redraw was really constructive for me. I began to see more of the errors in perspective in the original image as I drew over them, and while I know my drawing definitely isn’t perfect (I messed up the head/neck/right shoulder area pretty badly as a consequence of sticking too closely to the original), after many revisions and adjustments, I’m pretty happy with it anyway. This was a really fun exercise and I look forward to doing it more often!
Great job, and thanks for showing us the step by step process. :)

Perspecitve?  We don’t need no stinkin’ perspective!
(do you have an “errant buttock” tag?)

I really should.  And I love that phrasing, so if you don’t mind I’ll use that as the tag. :)

Here we have an alternate cover to a Zenescope one-shot, by Mike Krome.  Apparently in the Age of Darkness women don’t have nipples.

“Now Robyn Hood, you will tell me what you’ve done with all the anatomy you’ve stole from England!”

"Never!"
