Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

My friend showed me this and I was like, oh that’s not so bad, they’re just back to ba- that’s both her butt cheeks isn’t it?

"Fighting Girl Clothing"

This link is to a video by Rooster Teeth that shows how effective women’s fighting uniforms are in video games.

As one may guess, the results are…erm…censored.

Burnie (the man who is hosting the show) calls the fighting technique done by their two models desperately trying to fight while not flashing their tits is called “Bashful Panda.” I’m sure you can go to ANY martial arts studio and learn this move yourself.

Doing it right

I don’t know if you will accept this since it’s not Escher girl, but I wanted to submit it as an example that women with working protective armor can still look damn good.

This is Hilde’s updated design in Soul Calibur V. It’s not perfect, but her armor covers nearly entirely her body, looks pretty strong and doesn’t look that uncomfortable to wear or move with. And she still manages to look pretty sexy even without ridiculous body-breaking pose.

Very nice! I like it! (I’ll occasionally post some of these if they really catch my eye or impress me, but there’s already a blog for fantasy pictures of women in sensible armor, and I generally want to keep this blog on topic.)

Was looking through old Soul Calibur art. Xianghua breaks her own spine so you don’t have to. ):

She’s very considerate to agree to tutor us in sword techniques while also on her way to an urgent interview.

I usually only stalk this blog, but I just couldn’t resist uploading this one. It’s Soul Calibur concept art of Xianghua, who’s apparently been drawn in the b’n’b pose many more times than once (I can think of three, including this one, off the top of my head). The artists really need to lay off this poor girl.

Her legs are also doing a thing that makes me wonder how practical it is for her to get up and turn around to face whoever is attacking her, or is she just going to fight crouching with her back turned.

I saw this and thought of you. <3
I don’t know who the original artist is, but I found the image in this here post.

This is the link to the original comic so the proper credit is given :) http://www.eegra.com/show/sub/do/browse/cat/comics/id/33

What I know of the new upcoming Soul Calibur game is that Taki’s spine is broken and Ivy’s hips look out of place

I think it’s pretty cool there’s a fighting game with shaped twist-top shampoo bottles as the combatants.
