Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

I know you’re angry, Hal, but you didn’t have to tear her arm off and break her spine!

Ouch.
(Also her outfit having a zipper but being too small for her to zip up seems kind of impractical.  Perhaps she should requisition for a larger outfit.)

Did you know that wearing a lantern ring gives you magical anatomy?

This might not be the best submisson, considering it’s not just Carol looking weird; all of them have really wonky anatomy. But Carol’s breasts! I can’t handle her pose it’s just so urgh! Seems like they’re fighting a villain who’s powers involve breaking his/hers enemies’ spines at will (at least I can’t imagine Arkillo’s back not being broken, but then again, he is an alien).
If nothing else, Carol’s Star Sapphire costume seems to have improved greatly.

Yeah Green Lantern looks very bendy too.  I’m trying to sort out exactly how Carol’s body is working though, look at where one of her legs is, and I think that’s her butt at the back?

I’m sorry, I could not find my tablet pen to do this neatly, but I think I worked it out. The visible leg in front is her right leg brought WAY across to her left, her left leg is also crossed and under both her right leg and butt.
Definitely a case of snakey spine.

Maybe she’s actually a ring construct.

Some Silver Age butt and boobs
Poor Carol!  With everything else she had to put up with during the Silver Age, she doesn’t deserve to be torqued around like this on top of it.

I think we’ve figured out why if he loses, he wins, because she had to injure her back to shoot him.

My first redraw!  When I saw the original cover on Escher Girls I thought that it would be fun to alternate their poses.  So, I flipped the two and used that as a reference for a “new” cover.

It was tough to draw Hal in that pose ugh, and then even Star’s new pose is pretty odd too.  However!  I think I made my point by it.  Please enjoy!

This is great. xD
