Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

The giant spider limb actually highlights the issue with how she’s drawn.  If you follow her butt up, that limb is coming from the centre of her back, but according to her top half, it’s coming from her side.  So in order for that to be her side, she’s swiveling at the waist.
Also, when 2 people are being surrounded, the wise thing to do would be to stand back to back right?  Instead they are doing the complete opposite.

(First, I’m not 100% if I’m submitting this correctly? You should be able to fix it though :P)
This was a quick fix of a recently posted image. Just by looking at the image, I could tell it was in need of some serious fixing - so fix I did. I’m no professional, but the original was just so poorly done! I couldn’t let it stay that way. I had to make sure it was done right. And even if it still needs a lot of editing, I think I’ve got it that much closer to the ideal comic format…

I suppose that’s one way to make them both match up!

Okay, this is my first redraw, and I figured for my first redraw I’d do an easy one.
We all know what’s wrong with spider-lady’s spine, so I’m not going to bother redrawing that, someone with a better grip on anatomy can tackle it. What annoyed/bothered me was the fact that the artists decided to sacrifice practicality for “teh sexy”. Fighting facing each other is stupid. Plain and simple. I get that spider-lady ((I don’t know her name)) is pulling a B&B to look over her shoulder at the enemy, but they should be back-to-back. And I’m here to point out that you can have “teh sexy” while at least making it practical.
1: Blank, untouched image. 2: Red/Blue lined so you can see what I would have changed. I flipped blue-shirt so that she was **facing** the person she was talking to, and switched their placement so they were back-to-back. HEY. LOOKIT THAT. You still get your tits and ass. Also, I resized spider-lady so that she appeared more in the background. I don’t know how big she’s supposed to be, but regardless, if she was in the background she’d be smaller. 3: My attempt at maybe kind-of-sort-of fixing the image while keeping it looking like the original art. Unfortunately I couldn’t resize spider-lady, so she looks like a tan, arachnid She-Hulk. Also unfortunately, I couldn’t just simply flip blue-shirt’s entire body, so I had to suffice with just turning her head. I think it actually looks a little more comfortable and balanced like that, anyway.

See, at least that looks way more sensible for them to be back to back. :)

This is from a comic I saw at a bookstore called “War Goddess”.  Some of the art has been on this blog before, but I just saw this splash page and had to put it here.
She’s supposed to be cutting through some enemies, but that’s pornface that would give Greg Land a run for his money.  (Along with the other issues with her pose.)

I thought I’d take a shot and do a redraw/redline for this.

Not sure if this is any better. I couldn’t really escape the boobs and butt pose for some reason but at least its not as severe.

I like this redraw quite a bit, despite how rough it is, because I think that’s a great redo for both pose and expression.  It looks like she just slashed right through them and is glancing back at her wicked handiwork. :)
Just a note: boobs and butt pose is only if both boobs and both buttcheeks are visible.  A shot of the side of her breast and her butt is not a boobs and butt pose, so don’t worry that you showed a breast. :)

Hey no fair!  You told me I had time to attach my legs properly to my hips before you attacked!

I showed my friend and her reaction: “Haven’t I seen this before on Hentai Foundry?”

This cover raises so many questions.  What’s going on with axe girl’s legs?  How is her torso connecting to them (if there are two)? Did she chop off the other girl’s breast, is that why it appears to be sliding off her?  Obviously, this is the sexiest battle ever.
