Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

I know that occasionally there’s a twisted up guy, but this is one of the rare times there’s a boobs and butt pose in something that looks like it’s *meant* to be beefcake.  I’ve been wondering if this wasn’t maybe a send-up of the boobs and butt cheesecake we get so much in comics.  If so, it’s brilliant! xD

I feel this was done less to showcase his ass and more to hide his junk.
That’s probably true. :\  I considered it, but was trying to be positive. :D

What bugs me about this is that her torso doesn’t actually twist, so her arm and breast are just in the wrong place.  This might actually be the first case of boob flounder where you can only see one boob.   It’s actually frightening the more you look at it.  A real Escher painting effect.

So apparently she’s supposed to be killing a beast or something - and here I thought she was posing for playboy!

You know, without you telling me that she’s killing a beast, I would never have noticed that sword and that that’s what’s going on.  I think she’s just posing on a giant jelly donut as a cover shoot for Donuts Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition.

I found this picture on Escher Girls and decided I would try my hand at adjusting the anatomy. The main complaint is that she is merely posing not really fighting this creature. I interpreted it as she finished the battle and is posing with her “trophy”. Anyway, there were quite a few things that were odd with the original. The main issue is that her torso was way too long and her sword arm was not foreshortened correctly.

I ended up making her head larger, fixing her shoulders, giving her a thicker waist, taking the sway out of her back, adjusting her arms, fixing the perspective on her leg, giving her a bikini bottom (cause she was sitting bareback on spines?), I also adjusted her facial features. I decided not to change her costume too much as this character rarely wears more than jewelry.
