Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

Sorry for the large size, but found this one. Tried to do the pose (with my legs stretched/not bent), and it hurt!

She looks like she was put near an open flame and warped.

First we had pre-ripped jeans, now we have pre-warped action figures.

That Psylocke pic was one of the first on this tumblr, but I didn’t know they made a statuette of it.  What I love is that the pose was so absurd, that they had to tone it down in the statue, probably because if they made it like the picture, she would look REALLY WEIRD on the other side.

I looked at the first picture and went “yeah that’s pretty weird, but it doesn’t look that ba…” then I saw the second one and went O_O

See, the constant boobs and butt combat poses would make sense if women had laser sights on our butts or something.

*sigh*  Mai.  The thing is, Mai is already sexy, and her ridiculous double-sided-tape costume already accentuates her body, IS THIS NECESSARY?
Allow me to refer you to some better SNK art (from Capcom vs SNK 2) to answer:

No. No it is not.  Seriously, is the regular, non-spine-twisted hands on hips pose not sexy enough anymore?

Professional PVC sculpture of the character Mami from Madoka Magica. I instantly thought of this blog when I saw it.

You’d think with a 3d object, and the ability to look at different sides of it whenever you want, this pose wouldn’t be necessary.

Yes that is Princess Peach boobs and butting on a mushroom with a mouth.
Edit: Because people keep messaging me about it (which I understand): Yes, I know it’s not by Nintendo.  I assumed it wasn’t “official” because Nintendo would never do that, but I think it’s pretty obvious who she’s meant to be, and it’s still something of professional quality, produced by a company and sold. (Much like what J. Scott Campbell does)

I’m presuming this is some sort of wind up statuette?
