Escher Girls

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a WTF!?

This is a blog to archive and showcase the prevalence of certain ways women are depicted in illustrated pop media, specifically how women are posed, drawn, distorted, and/or sexualized out of context, often in ridiculous, impossible or disturbing ways that sacrifice storytelling.

See the "About" section in the sidebar for more details.

I was just browsing a bookstore today and hey!  Boobs and butt pose!  I’m curious what the original model and pose for that cover looked like.  I’m guessing one of her arms isn’t longer than the other, for one.

I’d make that face if that was happening to my body too.

One of her legs is shorter than the other.  And I’m still trying to figure out how it’s working behind the fore leg.
Something about it makes me think that the artist meant to have her legs crossed originally (or sketched from a model with her legs crossed).

I’ve got one! Killing Floor, a fun zombie shooting game, has a recently announced planned addition to the previously all-male player skin roster (with the question mark for Pyro)
Presumably her short Character Bio blurb will include the traumatic incident that involved her gun arm. I’m no expert on anatomy, but I can’t work out how to get that position without cheating and cutting the arm off at the elbow and stapling it back on >.>

The sad part is otherwise, she looks quite good.

One leg is twice as long as the other.
On the other hand, this looks like the best prom ever.

I’ll quote my friend: “It’s like an Id explosion.”
Also I’ll quote my other friend: “Is she trying to kill her or have sex with her?”
And then I’ll point out that something bad is happening under her waist with her legs, and that they don’t seem anywhere close to the same size (also one may be a slight crotchleg).

All the talk about the “Victoria’s Secret body” thing got me curious enough to poke around their website. I’d be interested in knowing exactly who to thank for the “beautiful” photoshop jobs here. Here is a special one I found on the very first page! On the left we see what can only be a poor woman with acute arm-stretchy-syndrome. And I may be wrong, but… Is her pelvis missing?
As for the right, there’s plenty to be said about the… interestingly-proportioned torso and beautiful almost oil-pastel texture of the skin… But what interests me most is that yellow piece of paper in the shape of underwear that apparently stuck itself right over where the product being sold is supposed to be! How unfortunate.
And this isn’t exactly a stand-alone thing. I haven’t seen a single picture on that site that hasn’t been photoshopped to the point of Frankenstein’s monster.

Now be nice.  Superheroing doesn’t pay very much, even superheroines with stretchy powers need side jobs.

Another Miss Fortune Mishap

Ever since I’ve played League of Legends, I’ve noticed that Miss Fortune has the most beautifully dislocated pelvis and her right thigh is located too far down. Not to mention, from the way she’s standing, I’d suppose she’s about to tip over and fall. It’s all lovely. ♥
Recently, they’ve changed her splash art. Janna, (current) Soraka, and a few other Legends suffer from anatomy failures as well. But for some reason, Miss Fortune’s had always frightened me most.

Tetris attack!

Alas, not even shark-attack victims are safe!
As much as I love the Deadman And The Flying Graysons miniseries…I can’t imagine how uncomfortable it must be for those Amazon women, having their metal armour ride up their ass like that.

I like how even in a brutal scene of somebody fighting for their life against a beast we need a) boobs and butt (actually it’s more of a boob flounder) b) boob hole c) battle thong.

Emma Frost in X-Men: To Serve and Protect #1. I like how she’s doing boobs-and-butt even though you can only just barely see her butt. Plus the extra-long left leg, tiny t-rex arms, and swivel waist.

"And now for my next trick, I will make your sense of perspective disappear."
